Teachers to be released from the classroom to learn Welsh

From Eurolang.

Teachers in Wales will be able to take three months out of the classroom to learn Welsh, so that they may teach subjects through the medium of Welsh. The National Assembly of Wales announced a £2m pilot scheme to release teachers to improve their skills in the language and therefore increase the number that can teach subjects through the medium of Welsh.

That's great that the government is behind teachers learning better Welsh to teach their subjects in. Do students in Wales typically take 2 languages or are they encouraged to take more like Spanish or French or German too?

Since I posted this I've heard nothing of the scheme, but it does seem like a good idea. Sudents in Wales in both Welsh and English medium schools study a European language as well, nomarlly French, but sometimes Spanish or German. Many people think that students in English medium schools in wales are tought Welsh at the expence of an European language but that is not the case.
